New Things | Defining Moments

On Monday, February 20, 2017, I had a defining moment occur: the moment I began my online art presence.

This is a new adventure and I'm not sure where it will take me, but I'm hanging on for the ride!

I've been a graphic designer for the last 10 years and while I've created art throughout my life, I decided the time was now to actively pursue art in a new direction that I had not gone before.

So was this a big moment? A little moment? An in-between moment?

I know it was big for me, and I'm so excited for what the future holds. Life is all about moments, and sometimes even the smallest moments can take up mansions in our memories. It's funny how life works like that.

That's the thing that I love and find so comforting in the process of creating art – it's all about moments. Those special moments of preparing your work space, fumbling around with your paints, choosing colors, not choosing colors, washing your brushes and staring, sometimes bewildered, at a blank canvas that just isn't ready to be disturbed. Wandering the aisles of the craft store for the perfect color, mixing your paints to make a new color... hoping the tiniest bristles of your brush will deliver the strokes you need to make.

And then the first moment of putting color down, dragging and pushing the brush along the canvas. Where is it going? What will it be? Will it go according to plan, or will you have something entirely new at the end? When does it end, exactly?

And then there is the Feeling you get eventually, though it may take days or weeks of painting and revisions, and only until you have that Feeling, is the painting finished.

Moments.

And within a painting, wow, there are so many moments! I love to find moments within my paintings, compositions or details if you will, inside the composition of the painting itself.
